Connecting tradition with innovation by dovetailing crafts and design has led to an individual style in the Bregenz Forest. The exhibition Archive of Forms has more than two hundred exhibits on display demonstrating the knowledge and skills of the craftspeople in their handling of material and their workmanship. Contributions based around the culture of home-living and building developed together with designers and architects testify to an innovative creative will.

Crafts and Design in the Bregenz Forest
The show includes designs from the boost-giving competition Handwerk+Form (Crafts+Form) – initiated for the first time in 1991 by the Handwerkerverein Andelsbach (craftspeople’s association) in collaboration with the graphic designer Harry Metzler and held every three years since 2000 together with the Werkraum Bregenzerwald; they serve as illustrative examples casting light on aspects of the design process. Collaborate, enhance, invent, reinterpret, combine, inspire and experiment: these actions in crafts are what shape the products just as much as the aspiration to make materially functional objects that are practical for everyday use.

Ordered according to usage typologies, the exhibition shows the diversity of forms and invites comparisons. For the first time it offers the option of an overall show, not as a competitive performance parade, but as a resource for the development of further appropriately designed objects. A specially developed database covering all previous designs from Handwerk+Form makes the constantly growing Archive of Forms digitally visible and accessible.
An exhibition project in cooperation with the Handwerkerverin Andelsbuch and the vorarlberg museum.
